How the amount is calculated
Rule: 200% of the SMI for the main applicant: €2,442 a month × 14 payments = €34,188 a year (€2,849 a month if spread over 12 payments). 75% of the SMI (€915.75 × 14) for the first family member; 25% of the SMI (€305.25 × 14) for each further family member.
€1,221 a month paid 14 times a year = €17,094 a year (Royal Decree 126/2026, articles 1 and 3). Over 12 payments this equals €1,424.50 a month.
In force: 1 January – 31 December 2026. Spain sets a new SMI every year by royal decree (the 2026 decree was published on 19 February 2026, retroactive to 1 January).

Good to know
- Spanish consulates state the amount as 200% of the SMI 'monthly over 14 payments' (€2,442 × 14, Consulate of Spain in Buenos Aires) and list 200% = €2,442, 75% = €915.75, 25% = €305.25 (Consulate of Spain in Hanoi). Over a year this is €34,188 for the main applicant, the same as €2,849 × 12.
- If your income is paid 12 times a year, the consulate may look at the monthly amount (€2,442) or at the yearly total (€34,188): ask your consulate how it assesses your bank statements or payslips.
- Family members are the spouse or partner and children; the 75% applies to the first one, 25% to each of the others.
- Other conditions on the consulate pages: the remote work relationship must have existed for at least 3 months, the company you work for must have been set up at least one year earlier, and you need a degree or 3 years' experience, health insurance and a clean criminal record.
