How the amount is calculated
Rule: At least three times the minimum income level for exemption from healthcare co-payments: 3 × €8,263.31 = €24,789.93 a year.
Law 537/1993, art. 8(16): ITL 16,000,000 a year; at the fixed conversion rate of ITL 1,936.27 per euro = €8,263.31 a year.
In force: fixed amount (not indexed). Fixed in the law: changes only if the law or the decree is amended.
Source of the index: Legge 24 dicembre 1993, n. 537, art. 8, comma 16, checked on 10 October 2026; Euro conversion rates of the former national currencies, checked on 10 October 2026
Income that counts: Minimum annual income from lawful sources. The Italian Consulate in Boston states that the income must derive from the work you will perform from Italy: passive income such as social security, rents or stocks is not considered.

Requirements change, and consulates and immigration offices can ask for more or assess your documents differently: always check the official page or ask the consulate before you apply.
Family members
Family members: The decree sets no per-person amount for family members: it allows family reunification under article 29 of the Consolidated Immigration Act, which has its own income test. Ask the consulate.
