How the amount is calculated

Rule: 4 times the minimum monthly wage (RMMG): average monthly income over the last three months of at least €3,680 in 2026.

Portuguese guaranteed minimum monthly wage (RMMG) 2026: €920 a month
RMMG 2026 = €920 a month (decree no. 139/2025 of 29 December, as cited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
In force: 2026. Portugal raises the minimum wage every January.

Income that counts: Average monthly income over the last three months from remote work (employment or self-employment) for clients or employers outside Portugal.

Not immigration or legal advice. These are the minimum amounts written in the official rules on the date we checked them. Requirements change, and consulates and immigration offices can ask for more or assess your documents differently: always check the official page or ask the consulate before you apply.

Family members

Family members: The D8 rule on the Ministry's page sets only the applicant's amount. Accompanying family members must show means under Ordinance 1563/2007, art. 2(2) (a per-person scale: +50% of the RMMG per further adult, +30% per child), but the Ministry does not say how this combines with the D8 amount: ask the consulate.
