The UK family visa for a partner or spouse of a British citizen or settled person. Official name: Family visa – partner or spouse.

How the amount is calculated

Rule: Combined income of at least £29,000 a year.

Income that counts: Combined income of you and your partner (savings can sometimes be used instead).

We do not give a yes/no for this visa: the income of both partners can be combined, savings can sometimes count instead, and the evidence rules (Appendix FM) decide which income is accepted.

Not immigration or legal advice. These are the minimum amounts written in the official rules on the date we checked them. Requirements change, and consulates and immigration offices can ask for more or assess your documents differently: always check the official page or ask the consulate before you apply.
